Every summer I do believe this sound will be the death of me. It is definitely the enemy of my REM cycle.(Edited: The most recent Firefox update broke the embedded link, grumble grumble, so if you care enough you can listen here.)

wow. who knew they looked like that? we have them here too but definitely not as loud. it's white noise. just think of it like that. :) positive feedback...
I'm just the opposite...it's a comforting, homey sound to me. I guess because I've heard for over 30 summers now. We even have the door open tonight and I can hear them over the TV.
