This is so funny. I JUST watched this commercial tonight--I mean, Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates together? And I didn't really get it either. I really wanted BG to have a bit more personality, though. I mean, JS had to work so hard. It has to have something to do with Google launching their web browser this week.
He was referencing the Seinfeld shower episode with Kramer showering in his clothes, I think. And part of it seemed like a spoof on credit card commercials, but you're right--it's very strange.
I think it is just a random excuse to have Jerry and Bill in a commercial together. They have failed miserably in the advertising competition with the Mac and they are finally trying to compete. It didn't make any sense, but I loved it.
This ad itself is really unremarkable. Why would Jerry Seinfeld...?

I especially like the suggestion that John Hodgman would have been better as Bill Gates. :)
